CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai organized the IGCSE parent orientation for the academic year 2021-2022 on May 5 th 2021. The present disruption in normal lifestyle rendered by the rampant transmission of Covid 19 infections again in the country has forced the school management to organise this event virtually for the second year in a row. The sole aim of the event was to familiarise the parents as “partners in progress” with the curriculum and also to acquaint them with the ethos and culture of the school. Welcoming parents and students to the new academic session, Ms. Jayu Ganesh, Head of School gave an overview about the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum and also spoke about the benefits of effective communication between parents and teachers to enable the student to make wise decisions while choosing the subjects
with an added emphasize on the necessity of the parents to act as proctors for their wards to ensure the learning not just continues in a holistic way but also in compliance with the academic honesty, which is a prerequisite for a student enrolled in the IGCSE curriculum. Moving further, Mr. Sathyamoorthy, IGCSE Coordinator presented in detail about the criteria for choosing subjects based on the groups that is enlisted into five curriculum areas set by the IGCSE with an additional brief on the list of subjects offered at the school followed by a highlighted note on the mandatory number of subjects that students should choose so as to make themselves able candidates for Cambridge ICE (International Certificate in Education) qualifications. The parents were also informed about the rules and regulations of the school and
the virtual learning guidelines. Later, respective teachers outlined about the scope and assessment pattern of various subjects and the activities that would be undertaken in the academic year ahead. The most important aspect of an orientation programme is to make students accustomed to the curriculum by giving the students and parents an equal opportunity to interact with the coordinator, therefore, a one- on-one session was organised the next day i.e., on 6 th May 2021 and the coordinator along with the class advisors met every student individually along with their parents, and ensured the subjects they have chosen would lead them to pursue the careers that are likely to be in demand in the future with an added emphasize on the various challenges that each subject brings with it to make the parents aware about the
efforts that their ward has to put in for passing out with good grades. The orientation programme followed by the one-on-one session proved to be an earnest effort made by the school management in enlightening the parents about the quintessential need to create a confluence of relationship within the household that not just proctors the child’s learning but also ensures that the learning is facilitated for a better tomorrow standing akin to the famous quote that states “tomorrow’s achievements require today’s efforts.”
