13 Weeks of Service at SANKALP- The Learning Centre & Special Needs School

“Love people for who they are, instead of judging them for what they’re not”

In a heartwarming collaboration, IBDP Year 1 and IGCSE Year 1 students of CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai, recently embarked on a 13-week IAYP service program at SANKALP, The Learning Centre & Special Needs School, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of all involved. This collaboration aimed to create an inclusive environment and enhance the lives of the students at SANKALP.

The diverse range of activities designed by our students engaged the SANKALP students in skill-building exercises like weaving sessions encouraging fine motor skills, painting to express their creativity, making cups and plates using leaves bringing a touch of nature to the classroom. This fostered artistic development and occupational therapy to improve their sensory nerves. Basic daily routines like brushing teeth, and bathing to table manners and etiquette were taught to students. To the CPSGS students, it was more than just a service, it was about fostering inclusivity and creating a supportive environment.

The CPSGS students also delved into baking, computer literacy skills, and culinary arts along with the SANKALP students. It was rewarding to see SANKALP students gain confidence as they mastered new skills as those were opportunities for them to shine and showcase their abilities alongside their CPSGS partners! These thoughtful creations were met with heartfelt appreciation from both the SANKALP staff and students. As the program progressed and impacted the SANKALP students, this collaboration also inspired our CPSGS students to cherish the value of perspectives, empathy and inclusiveness in their educational journey.

As 13 weeks concluded, the CPSGS students left SANKALP not only with a sense of accomplishment, but also with newfound incredible friends. The bonds formed during this transformative journey demonstrate the power of unity and shared humanity, proving that genuine connections can emerge when people come together with open hearts and minds.

Truly, the SANKALP experience has done justice to Dr. Temple Grandin’s quote, “There needs to be a lot more emphasis on what a child can do instead of what he cannot do”
