Joy of giving: the real purpose of living

Written by cpsglobalblog

To get the full value of joy, you must have someone to divide it with.
-Mark Twain

The joy of giving is a priceless feeling that gets one to realise the true meaning of life and its impact on others. At times, we recognise that the pleasure of gaining is only short-lived but the pleasure touches an enviable high when we offer help to a destitute or someone who is in need. To instil a spirit of generosity and morals, the management of CPS Global School, Thirmuazhisai initiated the IBDP Year 1 students to organise a charitable drive in the school as part of Creativity, activity, service (CAS) project. The students planned to raise funds to support the elderly people at Akshaya trust, Valasaravakkam by providing toiletries and basic cooking requirements that could keep them satiated for one month. As part of this fund-raising campaign, the student fund-raisers visited every class from CAIE 1 to IBDP 2 and informed about the motives behind this noble cause and the inevitable need for funds to get this event turn out into complete fruition. The classes conducted through the online platform was not a hassle for the fund-raisers as they were allocated specific duration of the time by the able coordination of the class advisors and the team-leads. The entire school brimmed with excitement and commitment once they became aware of this generous initiative and vowed to share their moment of joy with their parents who were also intimated about this need of the hour enterprise through a mail, to which they readily cooperated. The funds that started to pour in had an invigorating effect on the student fund-raisers who could not hide their happiness on knowing that the collected amount would be sufficient to further their help and increase the number of beneficiaries who reside at the other two centres of Akshaya Trust based at Mudichur and Pallikaranai. The CAS coordinator, Ms. Swarnalatha personally visited the elders taken care by Akshaya Trust on 15 th November and offered the materials that were bought out of the collected amount. The elders expressed their joy and heartfelt gratitude for this noble gesture. The CAS project “Joy of giving” organised by the IBDP Year 1 students met with success that not just resonated in the school but also in the lives of the elderly people at Akshaya Trust. The school management takes immense pride by inculcating the spirit of empathy and compassion in the students standing akin to the famous verse that states “We make a Living by what we get, but we make a Life by what we give.”
