The IGCSE and IBDP students of CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai embarked on an incredible journey of discovery- Nature and self during their recent trip to Mysore, India, organized as part of the International Award for Young People (IAYP) Adventure Journey. Over four days and three nights, the students immersed themselves in the beauty and wonders of places, in and around Mysore, engaging in a variety of enriching experiences that left a lasting impression on their hearts and minds.

The adventure began at the enchanting Ranganathittu Bird Sanctuary, where the students witnessed, firsthand, the diverse avian species that call this sanctuary, home. The adventurers were captivated by the sights and sounds of Nature, spotting Openbill Storks, Little Egrets, Cranes and Painted Storks, gaining a deeper appreciation for the importance of wildlife conservation. The day ended with a profound knowledge of snake awareness through a session conducted by Mr. Pradeep, the naturalist who accompanied the students along with other activities throughout this journey.

On Day 2, the students ventured to an organic farm, where they rolled up their sleeves and dug in to get hands-on experience with sustainable agriculture. Learning about different plant species and actively participating in planting green chilli and tomato saplings, not only deepened their understanding of environmental stewardship, but also instilled a sense of responsibility towards the earth.

The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the Bandipur Safari Ride, where the students imbued in an exhilarating journey through the wilderness. Guided by experienced ranger, Mr. Gireesh and Mr. Pradeep, they were able to spot a variety of wild animals such as a herd of elephants, a wild boar, monkeys and deers. Lady Luck was with the students as they saw both a tiger and a leopard, in their natural habitat, sparking a sense of wonder and awe at the beauty of the natural world.

Mysore Zoo gave the opportunity to observe various animal species, including some that have been rescued and given a second chance at life. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of conservation efforts and the role each of us can play in protecting our planet’s biodiversity.

But the adventure didn’t stop there! Trekking up the Kunti Beta hill on Day 3 rewarded the students with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. And for those seeking an extra adrenaline rush, rock climbing and rappelling on a nearby rocky mountain provided the perfect opportunity to push their limits and conquer new challenges.

Throughout their journey, the students were provided with comfortable accommodations and delicious meals, ensuring that they fully immersed themselves in the experience, without any worries. The team from Trail Blazers meticulously planned along with the teacher-in-charges ensuring safety over anything else.

As our students immersed themselves in the intricacies of sustainable farming methods and investigated the intriguing behavioral patterns of caged animals in the Mysore Zoo versus the free animals in the Bandipur Reserve Forest, they embodied the objectives of the IB learner profiles and Cambridge attributes. They have demonstrated exceptional risk-taking ability and a balance of care and inquiry, building a culture of engaged responsibility and confidence. As they maneuvered through map reading, first aid and efficacious backpacking sessions led by the organisers, The Trail Blazers, their adventures exemplified their reflective mindset, capturing a journey in which intellectual prowess combined effortlessly with practical resilience.

As they return from their adventure, our students bring back not only memories but also valuable lessons and experiences that will stay with them for a lifetime. They are incredibly proud of their spirit of exploration, curiosity, and dedication to learning, and can’t wait to see where their next adventure takes them.

Until then, keep exploring, keep learning, and keep dreaming big!
