Freedom is hammered out on the anvil of discussion, dissent and debate – Hubert H Humphrey
On 12th October 2023, our school debating team participated in the National Debate competition – The Bait 2023 organised at Bhavans school. Our team composed of Dhiya Nainar , Kausthub of A level and Varun Arya , Chameli of AS level excelled at every round of debate competition and claimed their excellence throughout.
In Round 1, our team proposed the stance ” This house believes that identity management theory is essential in the process of cultural change between community interactions for preventing meta stereotypes ” and won the first round.
In Round 2, our team proposed the stance ” This house believes that India’s counter strategy of Necklace of Diamonds is much more efficient than the Cheque Book Diplomacy used against the ASEAN Countries” and won the second round as a clear cut call.
In Round 3, our team proposed the stance ” That Art should be evaluated based on, if it is morally correct, not aesthetically. They won this round and made it to the top 4 teams for Semi Finals, the following day (13th October 2023).
On 13th October 2023, in the semi final round , our team opposed the stance, ” This house believes that judges should deliberately misinterpret statutes to protect peripheral figures in high profile cases. “. Our team won this semi final round with great applause and made it to the debate finale.
In the Debate Finale, our team opposed the stance, ” This house would only allow those developmental aid organisations that rank high on the effective altruism scale to operate in fragile states “. In a close call, our team secured the Runners up position.
Overall our debate team explored and dived into discussions and excelled in the provided platform with a lot of take aways from this participation. The team received a 7k voucher each from Reliance and a trophy of recognition and the team lead Dhiya Nainar won the “Best Debater ” title and seized an additional 5k voucher from reliance and a trophy of recognition for the same.
