Today, we proudly celebrate one such extraordinary story — the journey of our AS Level student, Ashwanth Sivakumar, whose passion for science and technology has taken him from India to one of the world’s biggest science platforms.
What began as an idea rooted in environmental concern soon transformed into a research project with global impact. “Can technology help protect our environment more effectively?”
That question became the foundation of ManKaaval — an innovative AI-powered framework designed to detect and monitor illegal sand mining activities. Combining artificial intelligence with environmental monitoring, the project aimed to create a smarter and more efficient way to safeguard natural resources. What made ManKaaval truly remarkable was not just the technology behind it, but the purpose driving it — using innovation for environmental protection.
Ashwanth’s dedication and months of research soon began earning recognition.
Among more than 6,000 applicants across the country, his project was selected as one of the Top 120 finalists at the 2026 IRIS National Fair held in Ahmedabad. Competing against some of India’s brightest young innovators, Ashwanth stood out for his originality, technical excellence, and social impact. His hard work was rewarded with a prestigious Gold Medal at the national fair — a moment that marked the beginning of an even bigger journey. Soon after, Ashwanth’s project earned a place among the Top 15 projects nationwide, giving him the incredible opportunity to represent India at the world-renowned Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair 2026 in Phoenix, Arizona.
From May 9 to 15, 2026, Ashwanth joined some of the brightest young scientific minds from across the globe at ISEF 2026.Standing on an international platform and presenting ManKaaval to global experts, researchers, and innovators was itself a remarkable achievement. Yet, Ashwanth went even further. In a proud and unforgettable moment for CPS Global School and for India, he won First Place Special Award in the category of Earth and Environmental Sciences, along with a cash prize of $1250.This recognition at the international level reflects not only Ashwanth’s talent and perseverance but also the power of young minds driven by purpose and innovation.
