The deep oceans are magical spaces and the underwater mysteries are truly flabbergasting to read about! What we have explored is barely 5 percent of the oceans and just like a layered cake with different flavors, jams, jellies and cream to give every layer a different experience, the layers of the ocean are unbelievably unique housing a variety of creatures and plants each adapted to its zone of life.
The students of CIE 7 & 8 have read about different ecosystems, plants and animals inhabiting it, Keeping this in mind we planned a trip to the Shell Museum at Mamallapuram. With 9 attractions spanned over 40,000 unique shells from various coasts of the world, the students flocked the galleries making notes and going awe over the delicate structures of some shells to the humongous large shells, each a different colour, shape, structure with natures artistic patterns, designed a particular way to suit the place where the organism inhabits in the ocean. The students were engaged in an insightful session followed by a visit to the mineral Museum, where mineral deposits were beautifully displayed. The students explored through the exhibits, listening to the sea through the conches and spotting many rare and unique shells. Some of this included the astounding Chicorus Ramosus, the sparkling Rainbow Abalone and the prickly Spondylus Linguacfus, The iridescent shells were mesmerising, and the history behind them was truly astounding to hear. Alongside with this the Dinosaur museum, horror house and fishing museum was a visual treat to reminisce.
