In a fun-filled kindergarten environment, teaching phonics-related words can be an engaging and effective approach to early literacy development. Teaching phonics-related words in a kindergarten setting not only helps children develop their reading abilities but also enhances their vocabulary acquisition. This week our little learners got ready for a fun and educational adventure with the letter “S” scavenger hunt. The aim of the game is to find objects that start with the letter sound “S” around the classroom. From silly socks to shiny stars, they discovered plenty of exciting items. As children search for these special “S” items, they worked on distinguishing the first, second, third, and so on things they come across. Consequently, it aids in reinforcing the ordinal numbers. Also, this activity helped learners grasp the concept of positions like under, behind, on etc in a playful and engaging way. Thus, each student’s effort and creativity in identifying the things were valued. Added to these kids had a sensorial sensory time. By incorporating shaving foam, sand, and scrubs into our activities centered around the letter “S”, we created a multi-sensory experience that sparks curiosity and fosters creativity. A memorable adventure of learning through play.
