“The thermal agency by which mechanical effect may be obtained is the transference of heat from one body to another”.
The students of CIE 5 conducted an activity on thermal conduction, which is the ability of a material to transfer heat.
They demonstrated this property by placing a bead coated with petroleum jelly on various spoons made of different materials, including metal and plastic, as well as on a glass rod and a pencil. These items were then placed in a beaker, and very hot water was poured into it.
Observing the bead for a few minutes, they noticed that the bead on the metal spoon fell off the fastest. This clearly indicated that metals transfer heat more quickly than the other materials used in the experiment.
