“Sleep is an investment in the energy you need to be effective tomorrow”

      – Tom Rath.

In today’s fast paced world, many of us fail to embrace adequate sleep. CPS Global School Thirumazhisai, celebrated World Sleep day to promote the importance of Sleep in our life.

It is important to get enough sleep to be healthy and energetic. As a child grows the time spent sleeping is drastically reduced. According to a National Sleep Foundation study, school-aged children should sleep 8-10 hours on an average. Sleep is important to produce productive work. Lack of sleep gives negative impacts on their academic performance as well as in their mental well being. Also good night’s sleep can help us to cope with stress, solve problems and recover from illness. To mark the day, students from Grades CAIE1 TO IGYR1 enthusiastically participated in the session in groups. The in school life skills facilitator, led the students through the benefits of a good night’s sleep, Circadian rhythm ( Biological clock) , 4 stages of sleep NREM,REM, active functions of brain during the deep sleep and also bedtime routine and sleep hygiene. The yoga facilitator started the session by helping the students calm down and relax their breathing. And with that the students rolled out their yoga mats and got ready to nap. With all the excitement of taking a nap in school, it took a couple of minutes for the students to settle down to sleep but within no time they were out cold to the world. It was a peaceful vision to see the students sleeping, resting their body and mind. Such was the success of the session that the facilitators had to gently nudge the students awake after their nap time. We strongly propose a scheduled time to go to bed each day for our students. Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise and we couldn’t agree more on these wise words.
