As part of the IGCSE First Language English curriculum, students at CPS Global School took a hands-on approach to mastering interview writing in an engaging and interactive classroom activity. The session seamlessly combined skill-building with creativity, offering students a platform to develop both their writing and communication abilities.
The lesson began with an exploration of the key components of effective interview writing. Students learned about the importance of planning purposeful questions, crafting insightful answers, and maintaining a natural flow in conversations. With this foundation, they embarked on an immersive activity where they assumed the dual roles of journalists and interviewees.
In pairs, students collaboratively planned their interview sessions, brainstorming and organizing their questions and responses. Once prepared, the students brought their plans to life through role-playing. As journalists, they conducted interviews with their peers, demonstrating active listening and refining their questioning techniques. As interviewees, they showcased their ability to think on their feet and deliver articulate responses. This dynamic exercise allowed them to experience both perspectives of an interview, deepening their understanding of the process.
The activity concluded with reflections on their performance, where students evaluated their strengths and identified areas for improvement. This self-assessment, coupled with peer feedback, reinforced their learning and boosted their confidence in interview writing.
By stepping into the world of journalism, IGCSE students not only honed their skills in a practical context but also cultivated their creativity and collaborative abilities. Activities like these exemplify CPSGS’s commitment to fostering active learning and equipping students with essential life skills.
