“On Pi Day, let us remember: In mathematics, anything is possible, even the impossible.” – Anonymous.

Pi Day is an annual celebration observed on March 14th, commemorating the mathematical constant π (pi). Interestingly, the reason for choosing March 14th to celebrate this day by mathematics enthusiasts, educators, and students around the world is because it corresponds to the first three digits of pi (3.14), which commonly represent the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter.

At CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai, the primary mathematicians learned the symbol of Pi and demonstrated their creativity with Pi-themed crafts such as pasting pulses, grains, flowers, and crepe paper on the symbol of Pi. Our upper primary and secondary students embarked on an exciting journey into the world of Pi through building pyramids and making spiral human formations using number placards. We delved deeper into the significance of this irrational number and its applications in geometry and beyond. Upon completing their streamers and posters, students showcased them in a gallery-style exhibition open to the school community. The streamers were innovatively made using the digits of the Pi by IG and IB students. By integrating mathematical concepts with artistic expression, students developed critical thinking skills, aesthetic sensibilities, and cultural awareness.

Students integrated the values of Pi with music and gave a mind-blowing performance with the first 100 digits of Pi. As part of the celebrations, students from various grades participated in the pi recitation. Rexiline, a student from IG Year 1, aced the competition by reciting the first 200 digits of Pi using mesmerizing mind techniques. It was truly inspiring to watch our primary learners rattle off the first 100 digits with amazing ease. Interesting facts about Pi and the significance of this special day were shared with the whole school in the special assembly. Pi day thus reminded our students that life is full of infinite possibilities!
