Our Engineers in Action @ CPS Global School, Anna Nagar

The thrilled inquirers of IBDP 1 set on a quest to explore emperical gas laws by designing a simple apparatus from the scratch. The room was filled with curiosity and anticipation as they tried applying their conceptual knowledge in testing the effect of pressure on volume of a gas.Boyles law is an empirical gas law that describes the inverse relationship between the pressure and volume of a confined gas. Although it seems simple, this law holds a pivotal role in in understanding many scientific phenomena, right from human breathing system to filling air in a cycle tyre. Avagadro’s law describes the proportionality between the pressure of a gas and the number of particles in the system under controlled conditions.

These resourceful engineers of IBDP 1 put together a set up from recyclable products readily available and mindfully assembled a controlled system to demonstrate the gas laws. They removed the air from the jar through a tube, which eventually lowered the pressure inside  jar as expected by Avagadro’s law. This resulted in an increase in volume that was clearly visible as the deflated baloon inflates on its own. Cheers and elation filled the class as they succeeded in their investigation.
