Nova Veta 2022 – Magnum Opus – A celebration of life! @ CPSGS, TMZ

Written by cpsglobalblog

Nova Veta, the English Fest of CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai stepped into its fifth
year of celebrations. Every year a different theme, a different format and a new
attraction! Nova Veta 2022 has been no different- this year’s theme is – Magnum Opus –
A celebration of life! Indeed, the world's a stage and we are all actors making our exits
and entries. Very aptly quoted by Shakespeare and adapted as our School motto! As
always celebrating the importance of literature and language in our lives, this year saw
a gamut of interhouse events right from fashion show, Fantasy Regalia by the tiny tots of
CAIE 1 & 2 to Turncoat Debate, Speech Warriors between the IGCSE Yr 2 students.
The school wore a festive look with the hustle and bustle of Nova Veta in every nook
and corner. Moana, Belle, Elsa and Anna, our friendly neighbourhood Spiderman,
Avengers like Captain America and Iron Man of CAIE 1 & 2 enthralled the audience and
judges with their captivating attire and took all on the ride to the fairy tale world. The
Stellar Spellers startled all with their speed in word search and accuracy of spellings in
the spell bee competition. It was all the more special as our Spell Bee Champion, Harpita
Pandian conducted it. At such a young age, the impressive Spell Bee moderator left
everyone spellbound!
The Versatile Verses competition brought in all the elements of tonal varieties, art of
memorisation and skill to test and our super heroes and heroines of CAIE 5 & 6
bewitched the audience and judges alike. With 29th July coinciding with the
International Tiger Conservation Day, poems on tiger to environment were presented.
The sense of empathy was reflective in the poems chosen and recited with great
fervour. The students also impressed upon the importance of instilling faith in oneself.
The Optimum Octave event brought the CAIE 7 & 8 houses together to create
audiobooks. A new concept but very well executed with proper voice intonations,
background score and full effects. The days of the radio are surely back! Superb syncing
and coordination between team members were clearly evident.
The students of IGCSE Yr 1 put their creative skills to test in a fiercely competed
“canvas patch painting” competition titled “Rainbow Hues”. Their understanding and
critical thinking were rekindled through a unique process wherein they were given
different literary quotes and were asked to interpret and visually recreate it on canvas.
Their creativity, use of colour palette, craft and design were highly appreciated by the
judges.
Amongst the plethora of events, students of IGCSE Yr 2 got an opportunity to effectively
deploy real-world knowledge and perspective through Turncoat competition, Speech
Warriors. It is a form of debate where the speaker started by taking a stance on the
motion “The house believes that modern social media make people less socially active"
and switched sides after 2 minutes by competing against themselves. This activity
enriched students with oratory skills along with organizing their thoughts to be smart
on the floor.
The finale was a play, The Mask, conceived, executed and performed by the IBDP
students. Week long planning and practice gave shape to the exploration of the
problems of fighting one’s own demons and emerging victorious through the story of
Veer was a treat to the eye. It was nothing short of a 70 mm Magnum Opus experience
with a very tight storyline and having all the elements of being a box- office hit and hit it
was! The day ended with this exalting performance and final announcement of the
results of the various events and a few other school awards, and gifting of saplings to
the judges for the day.
What an end to the week it was! A true Magnum Opus- A celebration of life, all credits to
Nova Veta 2022 at CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai!
