The moon, a captivating wonder of the night sky, changes its shape every night. To spark curiosity and deepen their understanding of the lunar cycle, EY2 children were encouraged to observe the moon’s phases at home. In class, a creative and interactive activity using Oreo biscuits brought this concept to life. The children used a fully creamed Oreo to represent the full moon and gradually scraped off the cream to illustrate the various phases: a new moon (no cream), waxing crescent (a small sliver of cream), first quarter (half cream), and waxing gibbous (more cream than a quarter but less than full). This engaging hands-on activity made learning about the moon’s phases both fun and memorable.
