“Digestion is not merely about breaking down food; it’s the process of transforming what we consume into energy, vitality, and life itself.”

Learners of CIE 4 observed a demonstration illustrating the human digestive process. The activity involved placing cracker biscuits, orange juice, banana, and water into a zip-lock bag, simulating the stomach environment.

The contents were thoroughly mashed to represent the mechanical breakdown of food. Next, the mixture was transferred into pantyhose tights with one end securely tied, symbolizing the small intestine. As the mixture was squeezed through the tights, it demonstrated nutrient absorption by the intestinal villi.

Finally, the remaining waste was placed into a paper cup with a hole at the bottom, representing the large intestine. Applying pressure from above forced the waste through the hole, depicting the expulsion of excreta through the anus.
