From Models to Hands-On Fun: Exploring Digestion @ CPS Global School, Anna Nagar

Written by cpsglobalblog

Our CIE 4 students transformed the science lab into a hands-on exploration zone to investigate how digestion works. To begin, they observed a 2D model of the digestive system and a 3D model of the human body. This helped them recall the organs involved in digestion and their locations within the body, building a strong visual foundation.

The real fun began when students recreated the digestive process using simple materials like cracker biscuits, orange juice, a banana, and water.  A zip-lock bag acted as the stomach, where food was mixed and “digested.” The mixture was then squeezed through tights, representing the small intestine absorbing nutrients. Finally, the remaining waste passed through a paper cup with a hole, symbolizing the anus.

By combining models with this hands-on activity, students better-understood digestion. The experience made learning both visual and interactive, helping them connect theory with real-life processes.

Science truly came alive in the lab, sparking curiosity and excitement for all!
