Exploring the Wonders of Physics with Gravesand’s Apparatus @ CPS Global School, Anna Nagar

Written by cpsglobalblog

The parallelogram law of forces is a fundamental concept in physics and engineering that helps determine the resultant of two forces acting simultaneously on a point.  Gravesand’s apparatus is used to understand and apply this law experimentally. It allows for the creation of force vectors that can be easily manipulated and visualized. By adjusting the weights and angles of the strings, students observed the resultant vector, making abstract concepts tangible. This experiment visually and quantitatively demonstrates how the parallelogram law of forces works. It provides practical experience in resolving forces and understanding how multiple forces interact to create a resultant force. Students of IGYR 1 A conducted this experiment in the lab to determine the mass of an unknown object using the principle of parallelogram law of forces.
