Energy Metabolism and Cancer @ CPS Global School, Anna Nagar

Written by cpsglobalblog

In the ever-evolving field of cancer research, the intricate link between energy metabolism and cancer development remains one of the most captivating areas of study. To address this we had as our very first guest for the Gleanings session in Lower Secondary for the Academic Year 2024 -25, Dr. Hannah, a remarkable scientist and the researcher in the field of Oncology. who currently works as DST inspire faculty in TN Govt.

Her insightful presentation shed light on energy metabolism and cancer, offering a glimpse into the future of cancer treatment and prevention. In simple terms how, the regular body cell and cancer cells constantly compete for the energy we take in (which gets converted to glucose). While at this student were eager to know about how eating chocolates/ sugary drinks could be a threat. Maam, broke the myth of how consuming sugar consumption is harmful to the body on the other hand sugar is vital for brain development. The discussion led further into over consumption of sugar and how the cancer cells divide continuously while feeding on this excess sugar.

Some students wanted to understand how the cancerous cells escape the immune system. Maam had the easiest explanation to understanding such a complex area of science. Students understood how the cancer cells pretend to be regular cells by shedding the chemicals which surround it. The session was not just about understanding the problem but also about exploring discussed the promising avenues of research aimed at targeting cancer metabolism potential solutions. As research continues to unravel the complexities of cancer metabolism, the knowledge gained will undoubtedly pave the way for innovative and effective treatments, bringing us closer to a world where cancer is no longer a formidable foe.
