CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai, joyously celebrated World Chess Day with great enthusiasm, uniting students of all ages in a spirited commemoration of the timeless and intellectually stimulating game of chess. The event was meticulously organized to cultivate a passion for chess, foster critical thinking, and promote sportsmanship among our students. The entire school community embraced the theme by donning elegant Black and White attire, reflecting the essence of the chessboard.
The day commenced with the youngest chess enthusiasts in CAIE 1 and 2 engaging in a creative and enjoyable colour activity. Delighted faces lit up as they were provided with chess-themed colouring sheets depicting various chess pieces on the board. This activity aimed to familiarize the students with the imagery of the game while honing their fine motor skills and artistic expression. The enthusiasm displayed by these young chess enthusiasts truly reflected their burgeoning interest in the game.
Students in CAIE 3 to 5 were presented with a chess-themed crossword puzzle that not only challenged their chess knowledge but also augmented their problem-solving abilities and vocabulary. The puzzle served as an engaging way to reinforce chess-related concepts they had learned in their chess club at school. The spirited participation and competitive spirit demonstrated by these students showcased their growing ardour for the game.
For the middle school students in CAIE 6 to 8, an exhilarating online chess tournament was conducted within the confines of their classroom on a secure and monitored platform. The students were divided into two teams, Black and White, based on their dress code, further enhancing the chess spirit. The matches were intense, with students showcasing their strategic thinking and tactical skills, impressing everyone with their dedication to the game.
With excitement abound, CAIE 2 & 3 students were treated to an extraordinary opportunity to delve into the intricacies of chess through a captivating human chess experience. Handpicked students from various grades were elated to engage in exhilarating one-on-one matches with three special guests who graced the occasion with their surprising visit. The special guests were Sabari Karthik, the MD of Phase Sports and a distinguished Karate player who represented India in various global tournaments, Vinayak Sudhakar, GM of Burlington English, and Aarthik Ramkumar, Business Head of Clever Harvey, who were in the city for an educational summit and kindly visited our campus, honoring our invitation.
As the day unfolded, the three esteemed guests couldn’t resist being part of the action and witnessing the incredible activities that unfurled in full swing, their hearts brimmed with joy, and felt compelled to share in the delight and engage in friendly chess matches with our students, becoming cherished playmates in the process.
The World Chess Day celebration at CPS Global School, TMZ was a resounding success, fostering camaraderie and enthusiasm for chess among the students. Beyond being a source of entertainment, the event emphasized the numerous cognitive benefits of playing chess, such as improved strategic thinking and sportsmanship. The students left the celebration with a renewed love for chess, eager to continue honing their skills in this timeless game.
