Today a reader, tomorrow a leader
– Margaret Fuller
In the quest to nurture a love for reading and writing among our young learners, CPS
Global School, Thirumazhisai, organized an engaging Sort with Fun activity for our
Early Learning Program (ELP) students. Phonics is a foundational approach that
emphasizes the connection between letters and their corresponding sounds,
enabling children to grasp the individual sounds each letter of the alphabet
represents. It is also a crucial method of teaching reading and writing that focuses on
the relationship between letters and the sounds they symbolize. By familiarising
children with phonics, we enable them to identify the distinct sounds associated with
each letter, paving the way for better language development.
In our endeavour to make learning enjoyable and interactive, the ELP2 students we
engaged with the activity wherein they had the opportunity to explore the letters 's',
'a', 'i', and 't', along with their corresponding phonetic sounds.
With excitement in the air, the tiny tots were given paper bits with the letters, 's', 'a',
'i', and 't' written on them. Using their tiny fingers, they carefully sorted these letters
and dropped them into paper cups labelled with the respective letters. This hands-on
exercise not only reinforced letter-sound association but also enhanced their fine
motor skills.
The enthusiasm among our young learners was infectious, as they eagerly engaged
in this playful sorting activity. Their faces lit up with a sense of accomplishment and
joy as they matched the letters with their appropriate phonetic sounds.
Through this interactive exercise, our students effectively internalised the phonetic
sounds taught in their class. Moreover, this hands-on approach to learning proved to
be an effective method in helping them remember the sounds associated with each
letter.
The activity, Sort with Fun at CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai, exemplifies our
commitment to providing a holistic and enjoyable learning environment for our young
learners. By integrating innovative teaching methods, we aim to instil a lifelong love
for reading and writing in our students. Just like Dr.. Seuss wisely said, “The more
that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the
more places you'll go.” So, let the imagination soar on embarking a journey of
endless possibilities through the magic of Phonics!
