Pongal is widely celebrated in Southern states of India. People eagerly wait for the festival and celebrate it with great joy thanking the Sun God for the harvest season. CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai was immersed in the Pongal spirit, from the pookalam adorning the foyer and classrooms to the faculty and students adorned and attired in traditional dress.
The ELP kids together with CAIE 1 -2, using their young minds and creativity, involved themselves in pot decorating and painting. A fun-filled competition was held for CAIE 3 & 4 students where they were required ti bring water in their hands and fill glass bottles. What can be more scrumptious than a crunchy snack eating competition! CAIE 5 & 6 boys engaged themselves in this fun activity while the girls threaded flowers. Sugarcane eating competition was conducted for CAIE-7 & 8 boys and Pongal related Rangoli competitions were conducted for girls. Afternoon saw the special assembly in the lawn wherein the significance of the four-long days of Pongal celebrations was explained by CAIE-7&8 students bilingually in Tamil & English through a skit followed by performing arts(Oyilattam), Kummi Dance, folk dance. A special Silambattam show was organized to bring in the traditional flavour of the festival.
And let’s not forget the sumptuous Pongal that was made by our teachers and shared with all at school. The festivities came to an end with teachers engaging in heritage activities like Uriyadi leaving behind priceless memories. Our students enjoyed a lot and shared the values of pongal celebration with each other. CPS Global School family enjoyed each and every glimpse of liveliness of Gramath Pongal celebrations with enthusiasm.
