Mystery of Water Uptake in Plants Revealed @ CPS Global School, Anna Nagar

Written by cpsglobalblog

The root hair plays a predominant role in anchorage and uptake of water along with minerals in plants required for its nourishment and growth. Due to continuous transpiration activity noted in leaves a negative gravitational pressure is exerted in the roots. It is the beautiful chemistry of the osmotic concentration gradient created that enables the water movement inside the root hairs from its surrounding environment. This water uptake by roots is transported by the specialised Xylem tissues made up of vessels and trachea from roots to leaves. In this experiment, the learners investigated the water movement in plants required to carry out the metabolic activities. The learners interpreted results using a 10X magnification in microscope by observing the internal structure of the stem wherein xylem tissues were seen.
