In a remarkable initiative, the IGCSE Year 2 students at CPS Gklobal school, Thirumazhisai campus, organized a mini-marathon as part of their Global Perspective team project. This event aimed to raise awareness about the alarming increase in drug abuse among school-going children in Tamil Nadu. The Mini-thon witnessed enthusiastic participation, with 100 students from Chennai Public School CBSE, Thirumazhisai campus joining the cause.
The IGCSE YEAR 2 GP students meticulously planned the event, mapping out a 2.2-kilometer route within the school campus. The route was clearly marked, ensuring that participants knew exactly where they were headed. Registration for the Mini-thon was made convenient, with both online and on-spot options available, making it accessible to a wider audience.
The Mini-thon was inaugurated by Ms. Jayu Ganesh, the Head of School at CPS Global School Thirumazhisai. With her support, the students began their run, fueled by a shared commitment to combat drug abuse. Volunteers stationed along the route cheered on the runners, providing much-needed encouragement.
To keep participants energized, the organizers offered refreshments consisting of glucose drinks and jam buns. These small gestures made a big difference, especially during a challenging run. The inclusion of a first aid counter was a thoughtful touch that highlighted the students’ dedication to both their cause against drug abuse and the safety of their peers.Upon the completion of the Mini-thon, Ms. Jayu Ganesh awarded medals to the top three finishers, recognizing their outstanding efforts. H.Thaavesh , Kishore Ramkumar, Gokul Sharan secured the first, second and third places respectively. Additionally, a special mention was given to Nethra K N, the first girl to complete the Mini-thon, highlighting the importance of gender inclusivity in such initiatives. All the participants received an e certificate, in recognition of their participation. They were also sent an e brochure, designed by the IGCSE year 2 GP students, which explained about drug abuse.
The IGCSE Year 2 students can proudly say that they successfully completed their GP team project. Their Mini-thon against drug abuse not only raised awareness but also united the school community in a common cause. By organizing this event, these young students have demonstrated the power of youth-led initiatives and how they can make a positive impact on society. The Mini-thon was more than just a race; it was a strong statement against drug abuse and a testament to the students’ dedication to their global perspective.
