World Youth Skills Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm at CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai, on 15th July 2023. The day was dedicated to engaging activities and workshops that aimed at developing essential skills and nurturing the creative potential of our students. From finger puppet making to personal grooming sessions, card making, and practical demonstrations, each class had a unique opportunity to enhance their abilities and acquire valuable life skills.

Underpinning these activities is the core principle of quality education, as reflected in Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education. We believe that education extends beyond meeting assessment requirements and encompasses the holistic development of students. By focusing on quality education, we strive to equip our students by enabling them to possess the necessary skills and competencies to lead fulfilling lives with a sense of contentment, while upholding sustainability. The students of CAIE 1 and 2 immersed themselves in the world of finger puppet making, promoting creativity and fine motor skills. The students of CAIE 3 to 5 explored the art of card making, fostering imagination and sustainable consumption practices. By encouraging the use of recycled or upcycled materials, we instill in our students a sense of responsibility towards the environment, aligning with SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production.

Recognizing the importance of personal grooming and its impact on overall well-being, our dedicated teachers conducted a workshop for students from CAIE 6 to 8. This initiative aligned with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, as we empower our students to prioritize personal hygiene and care. During the workshop, students gained insights into personal hygiene practices, dental care, hair and skin care, and nail care, fostering a sense of self-respect and well-being.

Our IGCSE students had the privilege of participating in a practical session on replacing car tyres, hosted at the Transport Maintenance and Garage facility within our campus. This exceptional opportunity aligns with SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, as we equip our students with essential skills and knowledge related to transportation and infrastructure. By providing hands-on experience in tyre replacement, we prepare them to handle unforeseen situations on the road confidently.

The IBDP students showcased their creativity through a captivating glass painting activity focused on repurposing mason jars. This artistic endeavour embodied SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, as students engaged in sustainable practices while beautifying their surroundings. By transforming ordinary jars into beautiful works of art, they contribute to building sustainable urban environments, promoting the concept of circular economy.

World Youth Skills Day at CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai, was a day of growth, learning, and exploration. Through a diverse range of activities and workshops, our students acquired practical skills, nurtured their creativity, and embodied the spirit of quality education. As we celebrate their accomplishments, we are confident that these life skills will pave the way for their success and resilience in the face of challenges. In the words of Benjamin Franklin, ‘Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn,’ the active participation and acquisition of essential life skills ensure our students’ readiness to navigate the complexities of life, equipping them with the tools to overcome obstacles and thrive in an ever-changing world.
