“Fractional Harmony: Navigating the World of Equivalent Fractions with Ease”
When students begin learning about fractions, they need to understand the relationships involved. Equivalent fractions reinforce the relationship that exists and further assist with ordering and comparing fractions.
With the same, CAIE 3 students were given paper strips of the same length, and divided them into groups, groups were given a certain base fraction based on which the strips were folded to make equal parts using the line of symmetry. Each member identified the fractional parts as they increased.
Students analyzed that equivalent fractions are equal because both the numerator and the denominator of one fraction can be multiplied by the same number to produce another fraction.
