Exploring Milk and Copper Sulphate: A Classroom Experiment on Density @ CPS Global School, Anna Nagar

Written by cpsglobalblog

In our recent science class, students conducted an intriguing experiment to investigate how the concentration of milk affects its behaviours in a solution. The setup was simple yet captivating: drops of milk of varying concentrations were added to boiling tubes containing copper sulphate solution, and the time taken for each drop to sink to the bottom was recorded.

This hands-on activity allowed students to explore the concepts of density and fluid interactions. Higher concentrations of milk, which are denser due to their fat and protein content, sank faster in the copper sulphate solution. Conversely, lower concentrations took longer, highlighting the fascinating relationship between milk composition and its movement through a denser liquid.

The experiment was a perfect blend of observation, analysis, and discussion, sparking curiosity about real-world applications of density and fluid mechanics. It reminded students how science can transform everyday materials into tools for discovery.
