A sustainable agriculture is one which depletes neither the people nor the land.

Swasthya Grains of Synergy, a timely project spearheaded by Christ Junior College, Bangalore on the UN declared International Year of Millets, witnessed the dynamic collaboration of students from CPS Global school, TMZ and several other schools based across the globe in an insightful exploration of millets. Our students divided into teams focusing on the subthemes, ‘Production of Millets: Environmental Consideration’ and ‘Role of Government Intervention,’ they embarked on an enlightening field trip to the Centre of Excellence in Millets, Thiruvannamalai, and surrounding millet-growing areas. Here, amidst wading through the fields, they engaged with local farmers, conducted interviews, and meticulously collected data, gaining a profound understanding of the ecological and agricultural aspects of millet cultivation alongside made themselves aware of the knowhows of the government’s role in aiding support during cultivation and lending relief during times of peril.

The culmination of this immersive experience took the form of a panel discussion, attended by enthusiastic participants from various schools. Through eloquent presentations, our students showcased their interpretations of the gathered data, sparking engaging discussions and nurturing a collective appreciation for the significance of millets.

This multifaceted journey went beyond traditional classroom learning, offering students a holistic understanding of sustainable agricultural practices and the role of government interventions. The project exemplified the power of collaborative exploration, leaving a lasting impact on the participating students, enriching their perspectives on farming, and nurturing a sense of responsibility towards environmental sustainability.
