Decoding numbers @ CPS GS, ANN

Written by cpsglobalblog

Place Value is significant because it provides the foundation for grouping, regrouping, multiple-digit multiplication, and more in the decimal system and a starting point for understanding other base systems.

Research shows that Teaching Place Value on students is crucial to their ongoing understanding. Studies prove that if the students can use the hands-on manipulatives to see, touch and feel where each number goes, they will successfully learn Place Value. By adequately engaging a multi-sensory awareness and experience of numbers, students will gain a strong understanding of this basic maths concept, and knowledge of math can retain (and use) for life.

Here we have our CAIE -1 children who enjoyed hands-on practice in place value systems using the almonds, and they grouped the almonds into ones, tens, and hundreds. This activity helped the children to learn effectively using kinesthetic strategies.
