The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated

The Times of India launched the initiative, “Saving Our Stripes” in an effort to champion tiger conservation and encourage the next generation of environmental advocates. This campaign was intended to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Project Tiger and it seeks to highlight the significance of preserving our tiger population through a multi-faceted approach.

Underpinning the campaign’s success is the “Young Rangers Contest,” designed to cultivate the creative energies of students while championing the cause of tiger conservation. By inviting students from different academic grades to creatively express their understanding of the critical role tigers play in our environment, this contest empowers them to become true ambassadors of wildlife conservation.

The tigers play an extraordinary role in climate regulation, economic development and act as a crucial agent that preserves the delicate balance of our ecosystem intact. This contest is more about fostering a collective consciousness of our shared responsibility towards nature and less about being a medium where winning is the sole ultimatum.

Amidst the contest, our school, CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai enthusiastically submitted 29 entries, showcasing remarkable creativity across various categories. The images section particularly stood out with its captivating attempts. Notably, the song crooned by Harpita Pandian of IBDP Year 2 under the guidance of Mr. Arthur, our Music Facilitator, garnered attention. An additional noteworthy submission in the category of images came from A. Athiyan, a student of IGCSE Year 1. His entry powerfully depicted the grim challenges faced by Tigers, whose survival is marred by an array of threats posed by poachers. The submissions by Kavati Lasya Pranavi of IBDP Year 1 and Nisha Sasi Kumar of IGCSE Year 1 further portrayed the plight of tigers.

On successful completion of entry submissions, our students at CPS Global School, TMZ were elated to recognize that the essence of this initiative lies in nurturing eco-conscious conversations and fostering learning through the process. As Baba Dioum wisely said, “In the end, we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we are taught, this encapsulates the true spirit of the Young Rangers Contest, where our students have not only contributed their creative expressions but have also embarked on a journey of understanding and advocating for the conservation of our precious tigers and their environment.
