The learners of CIE 5 A and B constructed a hands-on model to explore the workings of the human respiratory system, using balloons, a plastic bottle, a straw, and plasticine dough. The class was divided into four groups for this activity.
To create the model, they cut the bottle and attached a balloon to its base, tying off one end of the balloon. A straw was then inserted through the bottle’s mouthpiece and sealed with plasticine dough. Another balloon was affixed to the opposite end of the straw. By pulling down the balloon attached to the bottle’s base, the students effectively demonstrated the role of the diaphragm in the inhalation and exhalation processes.
