Break Apart @ CPSGS, ANN

Teaching young learners about decomposing numbers that involves breaking a larger number into smaller numbers is a challenging and interesting task. We helped children see that there is often more than one way to decompose a number. For example, the number six can be split up into the numbers three and three or five and one. Since kids will learn this by doing not on paper but through activities. Tiny tots of EY 2 used marbles to split the given numbers using different compositions. They have noticed and understood some tips as to how larger numbers and smaller numbers can be decomposed using different strategies. Their quick understanding and grasp pleasantly surprised us.
