From Tools to Fire: Tracing Human Evolution through Timeline Exploration
“Human evolution is the long journey of our species from survival to significance.”
As part of our exciting timeline activity on the evolution of humans, Grade 5 students explored the fascinating lives of Homo Habilis and Homo Erectus. Homo Habilis, known as “the handyman,” lived around 2.4 to 1.4 million years ago and was among the first to use simple tools, showing early signs of intelligence. Following them, Homo Erectus emerged nearly 1.9 million years ago, with a more upright posture and the discovery of fire, helping them survive in varied climates. Through this activity, students marked these early human ancestors on a classroom timeline, discussed how each evolved over time, and reflected on how these changes paved the way for modern human development.
“From stone tools to space travel, evolution is the story of curiosity and adaptation.”
