Where Did Our Trees Go?” — A Fun Way to Learn About Life on Land! @ CPS Global School, Anna Nagar

Written by cpsglobalblog

Our Grade 1 learners recently took part in a fun-filled surprise activity that blended Science and Sustainable Development – Life on Land (SDG 15) in a creative way.

The children were not told the topic. Instead, they were asked to imagine themselves as birds and animals. Ten colorful cones were placed around the play area, and each cone represented a place they could occupy. In every round, they had to quickly find a cone to “settle” in.

As the game went on, cones were gradually removed. The space became smaller, and the area soon turned rush and congested as everyone tried to fit into the remaining cones. Excitement turned into confusion when a few children could not find a place at all.

Only after the game ended were they asked to guess what the activity was about. Some bright students immediately made the connection – the cones were trees, and by removing them, the birds and animals had no place left to live or find food.

The moment of realization brought thoughtful discussions about deforestationhabitat loss, and the need to protect our trees.

Through this simple yet powerful activity, our young learners understood the importance of caring for nature and life on land. It was an engaging experience that began with laughter and ended with awareness – showing how learning can truly come alive through play.
