Our CIE 5 students embarked on an inspiring journey to uncover the wonders of eclipses. Through an interactive experiment, they observed the cosmic alignment of the Sun, Moon, and Earth as they simulated the event in their classroom. With a globe, a ball, and a flashlight, students recreated a mini-universe, where the ball stood in for the moon, the globe for Earth, and the flashlight for the sun. Using these simple tools, they modeled a solar eclipse, exploring the dynamics of celestial bodies. This hands-on experience allowed them to understand the positions of the Sun, Moon, and Earth during an eclipse, the creation of shadows, and the distinct types of eclipses. Engaging in this experiment not only deepened their scientific knowledge but also sparked curiosity and wonder about the vast universe around us. As Carl Sagan once said, “Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.” We encourage our budding scientists to keep looking to the stars and stay curious about the limitless mysteries of the cosmos.
