Industrial field trips provide students with a unique opportunity to witness the inner workings of sectors that drive our economy. Our school grade 6 students embarked on an educational adventure to a heavy metal manufacturing plant, giving them first-hand insight into the fascinating world of industrial manufacturing.
The destination was KRR Heavy engineering, a leading heavy metal manufacturer renowned for its innovative processes and state-of-the-art facilities. The bus ride was abuzz with discussions about the machinery and techniques they were about to observe, blending theoretical knowledge with practical experience.
Towering structures, massive conveyor belts, and an array of machinery created an industrial symphony of sounds. The students were introduced to Mr. Shakthivel Ramaswamy. Safety was the first step to the visit and Helmets were distributed to emphasize the importance of safety in such environments.
The tour began with a visit to the raw materials section. Students saw heaps of iron ore and coal, the primary raw materials used in the manufacturing process. From the blast furnace to the rolling mill and hydraulic press to create the ends of the vessels, students awe only kept increasing as they moved from one point to the next in the plant visit.
One of the highlights of the trip was the section dedicated to technological advancements and innovation. KRR prides itself on being at the forefront of technology, and this was evident in their use of advanced robotics and automation. Students learned about the integration of AI and machine learning in monitoring and optimizing production processes. They shared how these technologies help in predicting equipment failures, improving efficiency, and reducing environmental impact.
From Submarine vessels to rocket parts, aircraft wings to oxygen cylinders students learned how different pressure vessels operate and the manufacturing of the same.
