Bonjour à tous !

Our classroom came alive with the spirit of France as we celebrated its National Day, known as “La Fête Nationale” or Bastille Day. Learners explored and compiled a chart of words and concepts associated with this significant day in French history.

Lower Primary children learned about Bastille Day and French culture. Students eagerly shared words and phrases related to the event, such as “La Fête Nationale,” “Revolution,” “Bastille,” “Liberty,” “Equality,” “Fraternity,” and “Eiffel Tower.” As our list grew, we added more nuanced terms such as “July 14th,” “French Flag,” “Napoleon,” and “Marianne (symbol of France).” Students took turns explaining the relevance of each word, enhancing their understanding of French history and traditions. To make the chart visually appealing, students decorated it with drawings of the French national flag.

This activity not only deepened our understanding of Bastille Day but also fostered a sense of connection with the French people and their enduring values. As we admired our completed chart, we realized the power of words to tell stories, evoke emotions, and celebrate the spirit of freedom and unity that defines France’s National Day.

Vive la France! Until next time, à bientôt!
