Sometimes, the simplest experiments spark the most excitement. Our CIE 1 students recently explored the concept of softness by testing three different cushions. This hands-on activity introduced them to materials and measurement, and they created a bar graph to record their findings.
Students placed various weights on each cushion and observed how they responded. Some cushions compressed significantly, while others barely changed. They carefully recorded their observations and compared how each cushion reacted to pressure. Using colourful blocks, they then transformed their observations into a bar graph.
Through this experiment, students developed valuable skills in observation, comparison, and visual data representation. The unique qualities of each cushion added a fun twist, turning each one into a “character” in their exploration and providing unique insights.
