Today in our Grade 3b math class, learning turned into an exciting adventure as students set out on a Treasure Hunt — not for gold or jewels, but for numbers that make 100!
To kick off the activity, the class was divided into four enthusiastic groups. Hidden all around the classroom were number cards ranging from 11 to 99. The mission? Each group had to hunt for as many cards as they could find — but that was just the beginning!
Once the cards were collected, the real teamwork began. Students gathered with their group members to discuss and analyze the numbers they had found. Their goal was to pair up cards that added up to 100. For example:
- If one group found the number 37, they had to find and match it with 63(since 37 + 63 = 100).
- Found 84? Then pair it with 16!
The classroom buzzed with mathematical discussions as students helped each other find the right matches. They used strategies such as:
- Subtracting a number from 100 to find its complement
- Rechecking sums with mental math
- Cross-verifying pairs within the group
In the end, each group proudly displayed the pairs of numbers they successfully matched — all complementing to 100. It was not just a fun-filled activity, but also a fantastic way to:
- Reinforce number sense
- Practice addition and subtraction skills
- Build teamwork and communication
This hands-on math experience turned numbers into a game and helped students understand the concept of complements of 100 in a memorable way.
Great job, Grade 3 explorers!
Keep hunting — for knowledge!
