To strengthen letter recognition, phonics, and blending skills, in EY2 we conducted a fun and engaging “Roll the Ball Phonics Activity” that kept children active while learning. The activity began with children taking turns to gently roll a ball towards a box. Inside the box were letter cards. As soon as the ball reached the box, the child picked one letter card and confidently identified the letter name and its sound. Next came the exciting part—blending sounds. Using the identified consonant, children blended it with at, am, and ag word families to form simple vowel words such as cab, dab, bag, tag, and rag. The children said the sounds slowly and then blended them together, developing their early reading and decoding skills. By combining movement with learning, children remained focused, enthusiastic, and confident in forming the words.
