Learning becomes magical when numbers join hands with creativity and our Grade 1 learners proved it beautifully! This week, students explored the world of measurement through a colourful and imaginative activity that turned simple paper strips into candles, trees, and flower stems. Each child received a strip of paper, measured its length using a ruler, and recorded the measurement confidently. What happened next was pure joy-those plain strips began transforming into festive Christmas trees, coconut trees, glowing candles with bright flames, and vibrant flower stems decorated with hand-drawn blossoms. With crayons, markers, and great excitement, students created art that showcased not just creativity, but mathematical understanding too!
The activity encouraged children to use a ruler correctly, read and record measurements, observe length differences, develop fine motor and drawing skills, and express creativity freely. The classroom buzzed with conversation, curiosity, and teamwork. Students compared lengths, shared ideas, and proudly displayed their colourful masterpieces. The final display was a beautiful garden and celebration wall-full of candles, flowers, and trees-reflecting how joyful learning can be.
This hands-on experience proved that measurement is not just about numbers on a ruler-it’s about imagination, discovery, and learning with fun. When creativity blooms, learning shines!
