“Math on the Move: Symbol Signs Ahead!” @ CPS Global School, Anna Nagar

Written by cpsglobalblog

Symbols are everywhere—from street signs to math problems! In Grade 3 Math at CPS, our young learners explored how mathematical symbols help us understand and solve number sentences—just like traffic symbols help us navigate the roads.

To bring this concept to life, the CIE 3 learners engaged in an exciting hands-on activity called “Math Traffic Patrol”. Using familiar traffic symbols like the stop sign ( = )caution sign ( ? ), and Green light sign ( + ), students matched each with a math operation or comparison.

They worked in teams to create their own math roadways, placing number cards and symbol cards in the correct order to form meaningful number sentences. For example, 6 + 4 = 10 represented a smooth drive forward, while 3 ? 7 = 10 signalled caution.

Through this fun and creative approach, learners discovered how symbols help express relationships between numbers clearly and effectively. It turned math into a journey they could confidently navigate.

“Math symbols are like road signs—they guide us, show us the way, and keep our number sentences running smoothly!”
