“Archaeology holds the key to unlocking the silent stories of the past buried beneath our feet.”
The students of Grade 4 recently embarked on an enriching field trip to the Fort St. George Museum in Chennai. The experience was truly like stepping into the pages of a history book. As they entered the grand fort, the students were fascinated by the display of old cannons, intricate paintings, and ancient coins — each item telling a unique story of India’s past.
One of the most memorable moments of the visit was witnessing the very spot where the Indian national flag was first hoisted in 1947, following the country’s independence. The teachers explained the historical significance of this site, emphasizing the pride and freedom that marked that day — a turning point in India’s journey as a free nation.
As the students explored the museum galleries, they observed soldiers’ uniforms, weapons used in historical battles, and even original letters written by prominent leaders. These artefacts helped the young learners visualize and better understand the life and times of people in earlier centuries.
Through this visit, students discovered how museums preserve archaeological sources and artefacts, allowing future generations to connect with their rich cultural heritage.
This field trip served as a valuable learning experience beyond textbooks — offering the students a firsthand glimpse into India’s historical legacy and the importance of national pride.
“Each artifact in a museum is a voice from history, waiting to tell its tale to those who choose to listen.”
