On July 18th, students of CIE 1to5 celebrated World Listening Day, a special occasion dedicated to the art of mindful listening. This annual celebration honours Raymond Murray Schafer, a pioneering sound explorer who transformed how we understand our acoustic environment. Our session invited students to become “sound detectives,” exploring the rich tapestry of sounds that surround us daily. From the gentle rustling of leaves to the melodic chirping of birds, every sound tells a story waiting to be discovered. Kids explored two essential types of listening – Active and Quiet listening.
Sound Detective Challenge – Little listeners closed their eyes and embarked on an acoustic journey, identifying various sounds in their environment. This simple yet powerful exercise reminded us that listening is both an art and a superpower.
World Listening Day encourages us to slow down, tune in, and appreciate the symphony of life that plays around us every moment. By listening with our hearts, we connect more deeply with our world and each other.
Keep being a curious listener – the world has so much to share!
