Early Years parents gathered on December 19th for an enriching gentle parenting workshop led by Ms. Ruchi. The interactive two-hour session focused on building emotional intelligence and fostering positive behaviour through connection, understanding, and empathy.
Ms. Ruchi introduced parents to the Three C’s of Gentle Parenting: Connect, Communicate, and Consistency. Through engaging activities and discussions, parents learned practical strategies that could be effectively implemented at home.
A key highlight of the session was learning how to respond calmly and supportively when children feel upset or angry. Ms. Ruchi demonstrated the importance of getting down to a child’s eye level, holding their hands, maintaining gentle eye contact, and guiding them through deep-breathing exercises. This approach helps create a safe space for children to regulate their emotions.
Parents also explored effective communication techniques such as acknowledging feelings, naming emotions, and offering choices within appropriate boundaries. A powerful takeaway from the session was the golden rule: “Connect, then correct.” Children are far more receptive to guidance when they first feel heard and understood.
The workshop was highly interactive, with parents actively participating in role-play activities to practise these techniques. Many parents shared that they felt empowered with tangible tools to nurture their children’s emotional development while building stronger, more compassionate relationships at home. Overall, it was a truly insightful session in which parents not only learned effective parenting strategies but also gained deeper self-awareness, understanding themselves better beyond their role as parents.
