As part of our Nova-vita in-class activity, our enthusiastic Grade 4 learners took part in an engaging and interactive session on compound words. The classroom was buzzing with energy as students were divided into two groups—Team A and Team B. Each team was handed split parts of compound words, written on colored paper strips. The twist? Each student had only half of a compound word, and their mission was to find their “word buddy” from the opposite team to complete the full compound word! Laughter and curiosity filled the room as children moved around, asked questions, and matched their word halves—like “sun” with “shine” or “butter” with “fly.”
Once they successfully matched their compound words, the paired students were asked to create their own meaningful sentence using the new word. Each pair was given two minutes to prepare and confidently present their sentence to the class. This not only reinforced vocabulary and sentence structure, but also helped develop their public speaking and collaboration skills.
Through this activity, learners discovered how two individual words can come together to form a brand-new word with a unique meaning. It enhanced their vocabulary, encouraged peer interaction, and sparked creativity in sentence formation. Activities like this make language learning fun, memorable, and meaningful—building a strong foundation for confident communication and a love for words!
