Francophonie refers to the global community of French-speaking people, organizations, and institutions. Francophonie represents a population of over 300 million people worldwide who are spread in 88 member countries. The main ideals of Francophonie are not just to encourage dialogue and cooperation among its members but also to appreciate the diversity of its member countries’ cultures, languages, and traditions. On the 20th of March, 2023, CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai observed Francophonie, a celebration of the French language and culture. The day was filled with activities that showcased the importance of French language, cuisine, and history.
Students who opted for French as their second language created videos that highlighted various aspects of French culture. Some students showcased their linguistic skills by giving their self-introduction in French, while others resorted to crooning French numbers. The intentions behind involving students in such activities were not solely aimed at improving their proficiency in the language but also get them appreciate the intricacies of the language.
The videos also highlighted the importance of French cuisine. French cuisine, the name is enough for culinary enthusiasts to go gaga over, thanks to the widespread acclaim and adulation that French cuisine enjoys especially amongst the youngsters. The students showcased their knowledge of French cuisine and the various dishes that are popular in France by highlighting the importance of food in French culture and how it brings people together. Appreciating French culture is never complete without making a mention of the nation’s history. The history of France is rich and diverse, and the students highlighted some of the key events and figures that have shaped French history.
Overall, the Francophonie celebration at CPS Global School, Thirumazhisai was a resounding success. The students showcased their creativity, knowledge, and passion for French language and culture. The school takes pride in organising such events that promote linguistic and cultural diversity amongst the students.
