Financial Literacy – Understanding Needs vs Wants @ CPS Global School, Anna Nagar

Written by cpsglobalblog

Life Skills session took a meaningful turn as students explored the basics of Financial Literacy—a vital life skill for making informed, responsible decisions about money.

The session began with a simple yet impactful concept: “Knowing the difference between needs and wants is the foundation of smart spending.” Students were introduced to the idea of financial literacy as the ability to understand and effectively use skills such as budgeting, saving, and investing.

The highlight of the class was an interactive activity where students reviewed their recent purchases and categorized them into needs and wants. The exercise sparked thoughtful reflection, revealing how frequently we tend to spend on wants without much consideration. It was a fun, eye-opening way to understand personal spending habits.

The discussion helped students realise that managing money wisely isn’t about restriction—it’s about making conscious, informed choices. Understanding the difference between what is essential and what is desirable is the first step toward financial responsibility.

This session served as a valuable reminder that financial literacy starts early, and with small steps like these, our students are well on their way to becoming mindful and empowered decision-makers.
