“The best education you will ever get is travelling. Nothing teaches you more than exploring the world and accumulating experiences.”
Students of IG 1 and DP 1 embarked on a four-day, three-night IAYP (International Award for Young People) Adventurous Journey to Jawadhu Hills, Tamil Nadu, from 21 to 24 October 2026. The expedition aimed to encourage students to step beyond their comfort zones, develop essential life skills and build a deeper appreciation for nature and environmental responsibility.
The journey began with a train ride to Jolarpet, followed by a transfer to the campsite, where students learnt to pitch tents and acquired outdoor and survival skills. A visit to the Vainu Bappu Observatory introduced them to astronomy and the importance of preserving dark skies.
Adventure continued with a trek to Bheemanmadavu Waterfall, where students practised map reading and compass navigation while exploring the region’s wildlife. A supervised waste-collection activity reinforced the importance of responsible tourism and environmental conservation.
At Bheemakulam Lake, students participated in birdwatching and observed the biodiversity of the area. They also explored themes of water conservation, waste management, tribal community life and sustainable living.
The expedition concluded with a navigation and leadership challenge, followed by reflections on resilience, personal growth and environmental responsibility. Restoring the campsite before departure further reinforced the importance of leaving natural spaces undisturbed.
The Jawadhu Hills expedition was a valuable experiential learning opportunity, enabling students to strengthen their independence, collaboration, problem-solving and leadership skills while connecting classroom learning with real-world experiences.
