On a bright and enthusiastic morning, our students embarked on an educational journey to the CSIR-Structural Engineering Research Centre (SERC), Chennai. The purpose? To participate in the prestigious “One Day Scientist” program–a unique initiative that gives students a glimpse into the world of cutting-edge scientific research and engineering marvels.
The students were welcomed by the team at CSIR-SERC with warmth and enthusiasm. The session began with a brief introduction to the organization, highlighting its contributions to structural engineering, research in advanced materials, earthquake-resistant construction, and infrastructure safety.
The real excitement began as students were guided through various live demonstrations and interactive sessions. Some of the key highlights included- An eye-opening demonstration on how engineers assess the strength and durability of structures without causing any damage to them, UTM used in Fatigue and Fracture testing Soil heavy metal analyser. Each session was presented by experienced scientists and engineers who patiently explained the science behind each experiment and encouraged questions and interaction. The visit offered an eye-opening experience into how research is translated into real-world solutions for safer and more sustainable living environments.
